Physicians specialized in this field are called Gastroenterologists. They treat the diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract. The students who are pursuing this course will study the organs starting from the mouth to anus and the study also includes the alimentary canal. The treatments are primarily related to the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and the liver. The word Gastroenterology is the combination of three ancient Greek words: gaster means “stomach,” enterons means “intestine,” and logos means “reason.”
